The technique is typically not taught in a classroom. It cannot be done by simply going out and buying a high-end digital camera, setting it up on a tripod and arranging people in an assembly line fashion. No, it can only be mastered by thousands of hours photographing emotional moments as they happen.

This dad was a natural on the dance floor and was having a great time and incredibly light on his feet. Plus this was the third daughter's wedding and so he was a master of the father-daughter dance. I just had the sense that something great was going to happen, I could feel it. And when he dipped his daughter at the end of the dance, I just had a sense that there was a wonderful photograph and couldn't wait to view it.

It's still one of my favorite photos from a wedding because it shows how I like to photograph people doing what they do on their own, and just totally in the moment.
